This Australian Shiraz from the Riverland winegrowing region in South Eastern Australia. This hot, dry winegrowing region is famous for ripe, generous, classic Aussie Shiraz with delicious sweet red berry flavours. Harvested at perfect ripeness, fruit was immediately processed at the winery and fermented on skins to maximise flavour and colour. Maturation in oak.

The la collina vineyard is a steep, terraced and incline planted hillside vineyard on the North/Northwest facing slopes of Roys Hill, west of Hastings, Hawke's Bay. The hillside is protected from the cooling effects of the southerly winds and during the growing season the vine-yard is bathed in sunshine. The hillside terraces are planted to Syrah (and a few other interesting Varieties) whilst the lower slopes and Gravels flat are planted to Chardonnay and Viognier/Marsanne/Roussanne. The 2021 growing season was the third leg of a Hawke's Bay winning trifecta; dry and warm and all round, a great season. The fruit was hand harvested in perfect condition over two days in early April. The perfect condition of the fruit allowed for the inclusion of some whole bunches in the fermentation. The wine was fermented in open top fermenta-tion vessels, pressed at dryness and transferred to barriques where the wine remained for 20 months.

Not a GSM, but an SGM - a Shiraz Grenache Mourvèdre blend from the legendary Bleasdale winery in Langhorne Creek. Medium weight red wine with lifted blueberry fruit and cherry cola notes, wild thyme, savoury & earthy characters. Depth and personality from the Shiraz with notes of rain on hot gravel, clove and citrus. Rich fruit flavour with a fine chalky finish.

Church Road Syrah expressed the warm climate of Hawke's Bay perfectly with ripe plum, cherry and hints of spice. Le Sol (French: the soil) is born of the renowned Gimblett Gravels viticultural appellation, with its gravelly soils attracting the sun in summer and insulating the vines in winter. The vines are planted in the stoniest parts of the vineyard to a heritage clone of Syrah brought to New Zealand in the 1840s. Intensively hand managed, the grapes reveal a deep dark Syrah with purple hues. Le Sol is always aromatically pure with a luscious yet elegant mid-palate and a distinctive fine tannin finish. Very dark purple core. Abundant sweet, black fruits lead the bouquet, notably boysenberry and blueberry aromas. The tannin structure of the wine is exemplary and seamless from start to finish. The wine shows considerable drinkability in its youth, and the intensity is the highest in several years.

The vines originate from a Heritage clone of Syrah brought to New Zealand around 150 years ago. Produced from the gravelly soils of the Gimblett Gravels, this distinct Syrah shows an aromatic lift of floral and pepper aromatics with lushness and elegance on the palate. Deep red with a purple hue. Tremendous aromatic lift, with lavender and sweet cherries rising from the glass. The palate has significant density but a perfect balance that already encourages drinking.

Dark red fruits on the nose are followed by rich flavours of black cherry, blackberry, chocolate with a hint of spice. Silky smooth velvety tannins are accompanied by a hint of oak in the background.
